Hinenui Genetics have been 100% DNA testing the Coopworth flock since 2002. We are now DNA testing the Romney flock also. This is through the company Zoetis, using the Shepherd Plus program.
Shepherd Plus allows for multi-sire mating programs, eliminates error prone manual recording and avoids data errors from unplanned matings. Establishing a lambs parentage using Shepherd Plus increases pedigree accuracy.
We DNA all lambs at docking to find parentage. A tissue sample is taken from the lambs ear and matched with the lambs EID tag.
